An overwhelming majority of Californians say the U.S.-Mexico border is “unsecure,” according to a new Los Angeles Times/Berkeley poll.
A survey of registered voters found that 62% of respondents believed the border was unsafe, while only 30% said it was. The issue is deeply divided among state Democrats, with 54% of those who identify as “extremely liberal” saying the border is secure and 30% saying it is not.
Among California Republicans, 88% say the border is unsafe, while only 8% say it is.
Additionally, polls show that more than 70% of registered voters agree that illegal immigration is a “burden” to the United States, with 42% saying it is a “major burden” and 30% saying it is a “mild burden.” ”

Only 22% say illegal immigration is not a burden to the United States.
The Berkeley IGS poll was conducted from January 4th to 8th. It polled a random sample of 8,199 California registered voters and touted an estimated margin of error of 1.5%.
