Scottie Scheffler is off to a strong start to the 2024 PGA Tour season at Sentry. He finished tied for fifth at Kapalua.
Scheffler did not play in last week's Sony Open in Hawaii. Instead, he took a week off to prepare for his fifth consecutive start at American Express.
Ahead of Wednesday's tournament, he spoke at length about the importance of this week and the PGA West swing as a whole.
“Kapalua is a great and fun event, but I don’t really understand where my game is,” Scheffler said. “You're playing next to a volcano, the wind is blowing really hard, and it's a different type of golf course than you're used to. Come here in the desert. There aren't a lot of conditions. I'm playing next to a volcano, and the wind is blowing really hard, so it's a different type of golf course. Come here in the desert. There aren't as many conditions. We can clearly see what direction it will take during this period.”
Scheffler is developing strategies for each of the three courses this week. He wants to hit a lot of fairways and greens and look at himself. The biggest adjustment is the greens and green speed. sand trap style Brought to you by PGA West.
His quote is interesting because, like Kapalua, people tend to use American Express for lower rates. As the past two weeks have shown, there will be plenty of birdies this week.
“On the easier courses on Tour, it's much harder to catch up, so I feel like I can't catch up…so I have to go all out and start making birdies early,” he said. Told.
Since his rookie season, The American Express was the starting point for the season until The Sentry was moved to the beginning of the 2024 season as the signature event.

Two years ago, he credited the event with energizing his year. Scheffler missed the cut line by three strokes with three holes left on the Stadium Course.
“I chipped in on the 16th for an eagle, then hit a 30-footer on the 18th for birdie and beat the numbers,” Scheffler said. “Then I went out on Sunday and had a really good round. I finished around 20th or 25th.”
He carried that momentum to Torrey Pines and then Phoenix, winning his first tournament of 2022.
“It's a good instrument. It's a good week of practice. It's a fun event to come out and compete,” Scheffler said.
Scheffler will play alongside Patrick Cantlay for the first three days and will tackle La Quinta's course first.
They will tee off at the first tee at 12:14 p.m. ET. Day 2 will be played at the Nicklaus Course, starting from the 10th tee at 11:41 a.m. ET. The third round will tee off on the first tee of the Pete Dye Stadium course at 1:31 p.m.
