Oklahoma dad fled car wreck that killed 16-year-old daughter: cops

An Oklahoma man with a history of leaving the scene of car crashes has been arrested on suspicion of fleeing a car crash that killed his 16-year-old daughter and injured other family members.

Elliott Binney, 41, was pictured hours after the rollover accident with two black eyes and other facial bruises.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in Bixby around 9:20 p.m. local time on Thursday. 2 News reportedsaid the Bixby Police Department.

Binney's teenage daughter, Shelby, was thrown from the car and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, authorities said.

She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Three members of her family, including one adult and two elementary school children, were also hospitalized after the accident, 2News reported.

Police arrested Binney on Friday morning about 80 miles from the scene in Checotah, the newspaper said.

Authorities told 2News that witnesses saw Binney, 41, driving at about 110 mph and passing multiple cars in a no-passing zone shortly before the crash. There is.

One of the witnesses also recalled seeing a man standing outside the family's SUV after the accident, an anonymous individual told the outlet.

However, when she asked him to sit down and asked who was still in the car, the man appeared confused and fled, police said.

Police now believe Vinny initially fled on foot and then got into a second vehicle.

“He walked to his family business to retrieve his vehicle. We were able to track this vehicle electronically and were ultimately able to make an arrest in this incident,” Bixby Police Department said. Chief Todd Blish said. told FOX23.

When officers searched Binney's car, they found vodka and several pill bottles with peeling labels in the front seat, the video shows.

According to FOX 23, Binney told police that the accident was caused by him slipping on an oil field and running off the road.

There was also a bottle of vodka at the scene, and Binney admitted the family had bought the alcohol and chugged it while driving, the paper added.

By the time Vinny was arrested, too much time had passed for a DUI test, 2 News explained.

Vinny's wife, who was in the car at the time of the accident, told police that they had been arguing before the accident.

Binney was ultimately charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, first-degree manslaughter and passing a vehicle in a no-passing zone, 2News reported.

According to the media, Binney was released from prison after paying bail of $102,100.

Thursday's tragedy wasn't Vinny's first run-in with the law. His extensive criminal history includes three previous charges of leaving the scene of an accident, which were dismissed in 2010 and 2016. 2 News reported.

Shelby Binney, a sophomore at Bixby High School, was remembered as a “bright light” with a “heart of gold” in the cheerleading gym.
