Mississippi mother’s post of son’s school writeup for saying ‘Jesus Christ’ goes viral

A Mississippi mother posted on social media the comments she received after her first-grader said “Jesus Christ” at school, garnering thousands of responses, comments and shares.

“Please pray for our school,” Shona Coleman wrote on Facebook. “My son got this from school when he said Jesus Christ.”

The post includes a photo of a Jan. 4 “Parent Notification of Disciplinary Incident” that appears to be from Hope Sullivan Elementary School in South Haven, Mississippi.

The reason for the notification is that “unacceptable language” is checked, and the actions taken include “meeting with student” and “calling parents.”

“It's unfair in a way that he wasn't given a warning,” Coleman said. FOX TV station. “It was a write-up right away. I understand if he did it a second time, and you write him out.”

A note from the teacher said that Coleman's son “said 'Jesus Christ' when he dropped the Legos that he had been putting away from recess.”

Hope Sullivan Elementary School is part of the DeSoto County School District.

A statement to Fox News said, “Students may be disciplined for using the name of Jesus Christ in a disrespectful manner,” adding that students “cannot be disciplined for simply calling Jesus Christ.” “Never,” he added, adding that some schools in the district hold Christian fellowships that meet on campus.

The district oversees 42 public schools, according to its Facebook page.

Coleman said she was “shocked and surprised” by the incident involving her 7-year-old son, adding that school records often include notes from children.

“So sad what this world has become,” one Facebook user wrote in response to Coleman's viral post. “We need Jesus in that school. We must continue to pray for our children.”

Another woman wrote, “They will have to show me a policy that considers 'Jesus Christ' an unacceptable word.”
