Former NBA big man Scott Pollard, who became a cult hero with his funky hairstyle and appearance on Survivor, is in need of a heart transplant.
In a new photo shared by his wife, Dawn Pollard, on January 10, the former NBA champion revealed that he is suffering from a hereditary heart problem caused by a virus he contracted in 2021, and has suffered a series of He said he has undergone surgery and tests. Just as his father, Pearl Pollard, passed away 30 years ago.
“Three failed heart ablations in the past three years, a pacemaker/defibrillator, all the medications and side effects, heart biopsies, heart catheterizations, CT/MRI scans, countless large blood draws, and ER visits. , myocarditis, pericarditis… and now the heart transplant list.” Dawn wrote to X:
“It's a strange situation to sit here and think for an unspecified amount of time.” He spoke to the Indianapolis Star about the need for a transplant. “The surgeon here said it's like winning the lottery. You might get lucky next week, next month, next year. It might be longer. It's like Tom Petty says: “Waiting is the hardest part.”
Pollard, 48, who played 11 seasons in the NBA for five different teams and ended his career with a championship in Boston in 2008, speculated in an interview with the newspaper that it was the first time he went for a walk with his wife in three years.
Given his 6-foot-11 frame, the former center needs a big man to provide donations, a problem his father also faced.
To combat this disadvantage, Pollard has enrolled three hospitals, including Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Vanderbilt University and the University of Chicago hospitals.
“The donations go to the community, but the hearts don't go anywhere. The hearts don't come to me – I have to go to the hearts. Vanderbilt is better than anywhere else in the country. They do a lot of surgeries (heart transplants) and are usually a 4 hour drive away. Even if it was a 5 hour drive (to Nashville), they accepted me.
“I said if you give me a call, my wife will have you there within four minutes.”
