Trump claims Sununu ‘didn’t have the guts’ to run for president

Former President Trump on Friday slammed New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) during a rally in the Granite State, claiming he “doesn't have the courage” to run for president.

“We have a governor who, to be honest, is a terrible person, this guy. 'I'm watching him. He's all over the place,'” President Trump told a crowd in Concord, New Hampshire. “”

“But he ran for president and his numbers were close to Asa Hutchinson,” he added, referring to the former Arkansas governor who suspended his bid for the White House on Tuesday.

The former president continued to mock Sununu, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump since endorsing former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in last month's campaign, and Sununu announced he would not run. He claimed that he appeared on “every show” just to do so. end.

“He thinks he's a charming guy. He's nothing,” the former president continued, calling the governor “bad news.”

“I realized that people didn't like him very much because he ran too much,” he added. “It was crazy. And he decided not to run.”

Sununu announced in June that he would not run for president.

Trump directed his anger at Haley, claiming the governor was backing a candidate who lacked the “ability” to do the job. He said she was not “tough enough,” “smart enough” or “respected enough” to win the nomination in November.

He then took another jab at Sununu, telling rallygoers, “Your governor is the worst.”

Despite President Trump's attacks, New Hampshire's governor vowed earlier this week to support the eventual Republican nominee, whether it's Haley or not.

“Yes, I support the Republican candidate. Absolutely. Yeah, that shouldn't shock anyone,” he said Wednesday. “It should be no surprise to anyone that Republican governors end up running against Biden.”

Sununu also pushed back against Sen. Tim Scott (RS.C.) for supporting Trump, recalling that it was Haley who appointed him to the Senate when Haley was governor. I let it happen.

Scott put his candidacy on hold ahead of the Iowa caucuses, traveled to New Hampshire with Trump, and formally endorsed Trump during the rally.
