Representative Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) responded to reports that former President Trump confused his rival in the Republican presidential primary, Nikki Haley, with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). I denied it. according to As reported by NBC News.
“The reality is that Nikki Haley, like Nancy Pelosi, is relying on the Democratic Party to put on a desperate performance,” Stefanik said.
The New York congressman has endorsed Trump, who is seeking to become president in 2024. She also hasn't ruled out becoming his running mate in this year's election.
“Well, of course I would be honored to serve in any capacity in the Trump administration. I'm proud to be the first member of Congress to support his reelection. I'm a strong supporter of President Trump. He is proud to be a champion and will win this November,” Stefanik said.
President Trump spoke about the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol at a rally in New Hampshire on Friday and appeared to confuse Haley with Pelosi.
“By the way, they never reported on the Jan. 6 crowd. You know, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, they — they have all the information, all the evidence, everything. You know what I destroyed, I deleted it? I destroyed it all. Everything,” Trump claimed. “For a variety of reasons… like Nikki Haley is in charge of security, we gave her 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard, whatever they wanted. I said no. They don't want to talk about it. They're very dishonest people.”
In the same interview where she talked about Trump's running mate, Stefanik did not say whether she had discussed running mate with Trump.
“I won't go into the content of my conversations with President Trump. I speak to him frequently. We've been focused on winning,” Stefanik said. “As Chairman of the House Republican Conference and as the representative of New York's 21st Congressional District, I have a lot of work to do.”
“We need to make sure that President Trump is in the strongest position to win the general election. That's what I've been focused on and will continue to be focused on,” she added.
