Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang Takes Part in China Delegation at President Trump's Invitation

Trump’s High-Profile Delegation Visits Beijing

This week, President Donald Trump visited Beijing, bringing along over a dozen top executives from U.S. businesses and technology. Notably, Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, was added unexpectedly to the group after receiving a direct request from Trump, resulting in Huang flying to Alaska to meet the delegation.

Among those on this prestigious trip are Apple’s Tim Cook, Elon Musk from Tesla and SpaceX, and Larry Fink from BlackRock, alongside leaders from Meta, Visa, JPMorgan, and Boeing, to name a few. A source from the White House confirmed that many senior U.S. officials are also part of this visit.

Huang’s inclusion was especially significant since his initial absence attracted attention. His quick flight to catch up with the delegation underscored the importance placed on technology leaders in these diplomatic discussions.

This trip is a crucial moment, as Trump is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping amidst growing economic and technological tensions between the U.S. and China. It’s worth noting that this will be the first visit by a sitting American president to China in about a decade.

Huang’s role is particularly relevant given the rising importance of Nvidia’s advanced AI chips in the context of U.S.-China relations. He is also a member of Trump’s Science and Technology Advisory Council, which includes other influential figures like Mark Zuckerberg from Meta and Larry Ellison from Oracle.

The delegation also features several notable business leaders. Notables like Dina Powell McCormick from Meta and Boeing’s Kelly Ortberg will be joining. Other attendees include Visa’s Ryan McInerney, Stephen Schwartzman from Blackstone, and Brian Sykes of Cargill.

The financial sector is well represented too, with Citi’s Jane Fraser, Goldman Sachs’ David Solomon, and Mastercard’s Michael Miebach all part of the group. Additional executives include Jim Anderson from Coherent, Henry Lawrence Culp of GE Aerospace, and Jacob Theisen of Illumina.

Interestingly, Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology, is also attending. His presence is particularly noteworthy following the Chinese government’s restrictions on specific Micron chips in key infrastructures due to national security concerns. These ongoing tensions around semiconductors highlight the complex dynamics of technology between the two nations.

Chuck Robbins, the CEO of Cisco, was invited but could not attend due to concerns regarding company revenue, according to a spokesperson.

This diverse group of executives embodies a wide array of U.S. business interests that span social media, consumer technology, chips, and manufacturing.
