Republican presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley on Saturday expressed concern about former President Trump's mental state after appearing to confuse him with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
“Trump was at a rally last night,” Haley said. Said in a clip posted on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter. “And he went on and on about why I didn't provide security during the Capitol riot, why I didn't handle January 6th better.” I wasn't even in Washington, D.C., at the time. I wasn't in the office at the time.”
“They say he was confused, that he was talking about something else, that he was talking about Nancy Pelosi, that he mentioned me multiple times in that scenario,” Haley continued. “My concern, and I don't mean this in a derogatory way, is that when you're dealing with the pressures of the presidency, you're wondering if you're mentally fit to do this job. It means you can't have anyone else to question.”
The former president spoke at a rally Friday about the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol and appeared to gaffe about the former ambassador to the United Nations and the former speaker of the House of Representatives.
“By the way, they never reported on the Jan. 6 crowd. You know, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, they — they have all the information, all the evidence, everything. You know what I destroyed, I deleted it? I destroyed it all. Everything,” Trump claimed. “For a variety of reasons… like Nikki Haley is in charge of security, we gave her 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard, whatever they wanted. I said no. They don't want to talk about it. They're very dishonest people.”
Trump and Haley will face off Tuesday in the New Hampshire primary, the next stage in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Trump currently leads Haley in the Granite State by 10.6 points, according to the Decision Desk HQ/The Hill polling average.
