A man suspected of stabbing three people, one of whom died, at a north Austin home has been arrested, police said Sunday.
Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson said when police arrived, they heard screaming coming from inside the residence and forced their way through.
Once inside, they saw a man with a knife holding down a woman who had been stabbed. They opened fire shortly after. The suspect was struck and injured.

“Due to the urgency of the situation, officers made the decision to force entry into the residence through the front door to save lives and prevent further harm to those inside,” Henderson said at a press conference Sunday. ” he said. “The woman, who was being held by the suspect, was taken outside the residence by officers.”
