A community in Pennsylvania recently reclaimed its Native American history, reinstating its school's tribal mascot last week. The development came after five school committee members ran on a pro-Native American platform and won elections, according to . fox news digital.
The Southern York County School District School Board voted 7-2 Thursday to allow Susquehannock High School to use the Warrior logo again.
This comes after certain Native American mascots were banned in certain areas of the country. California is initial state Banning “Redskins” as a team name or mascot in 2015. In 2022, the NFL team formerly known as the Washington Redskins changed its name to the Washington Commanders after activists argued that the mascot was an example of systemic racism.

“This vote was a Lexington and Concord moment in the effort to break through cancel culture,” Native American activist and historian Andre Billeaud-Axe told FOX News Digital. All seven votes in favor of the Warrior logo came from members who were elected to the board after 2021, when the logo was banned.
“The SYCSD School Board is an example and blueprint for other communities fighting for Native American names and images,” the Native American Parents Association said in a statement last week.
“This movement is about erasing Native American culture, and I wasn't going to support that,” said mother and new school board member Jennifer Henkel. She said she was motivated to get involved after the negative effects of the COVID-19 lockdown and the rise of cancel culture, which seeks to erase parts of the community's history.
But some people in the community don't share Henkel's views.
Former school board member Deborah Kalina wrote in an editorial in the York Daily Record: “They entered their new positions with bravado to further their personal goals, rather than with the humility of learning their trade.” I wrote.
“Cleaning up the mascot is a tribute to the past, present and future,” said Native American mother Katie Isenoch.
