Illinois State Police have arrested the girlfriend of gunman Romeo Nance, who is accused of killing seven family members in two homes over the weekend and then taking his own life in Texas earlier this week.

The Joliet Police Department announced that Kylie Cleveland Singleton, 21, is currently being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility on suspicion of obstruction of justice.

“Upon finding Ms. Cleveland-Singleton, she voluntarily agreed to be transported to the Joliet Police Department for questioning regarding the murder,” police said in a Facebook post. “After questioning Ms. Cleveland-Singleton, detectives believed that she made her statements with the intent of preventing the arrest of her suspect and impeding her investigation.”

Nance was eventually found by U.S. Marshals near Natalia, Texas, around 8:30 p.m. Monday, where he was shot and killed after a confrontation with law enforcement, police said.

Police say the suspect who killed seven people in Illinois took his own life in Texas.

Investigators say seven members of Nance's family were murdered Sunday at two homes on West Acres Road in suburban Chicago.

They include Nance's mother, Tameka Nance, 47, her aunt, Christine Esters, 38, her uncle, William Esters II, 35, her brother, Joshua Nance, 31, and her sister. They were identified as Alexandria Nance, 20, and her sisters, ages 16 and 14.

“During this investigation, detectives quickly identified 23-year-old Romeo Nance as the suspect in the West Acres Road homicide, but he is the suspect in the shooting that the Will County Sheriff's Office and police are investigating. “The shooting in Joliet was non-fatal,” the Joliet Police Department said.

Authorities said Cleveland Singleton was the mother of Nance's 3-year-old son.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

“We can't get inside his head,” Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans told reporters Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. “We have no clue as to why he did such a thing.”
