Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid his condolences today (Monday, January 29, 2024) in Rahat at the family home of the late Israeli Defense Forces Sergeant First Class (Res.) Ahmad Abu Latif, who was killed in combat in the Gaza Strip.
The Prime Minister heard from his family about Ahmad’s special and unique personality and heroic deeds. His father, Tewfik, said his son always welcomed soldiers into his home and told them, “This is your home, this is your homeland.” Ahmad’s brother Qaid said Ahmad believed in national unity and a common destiny, and this war underlined that, and that we were all in this operation. Mr. Kaid proposed commemorating his late brother by awarding him the Prime Minister’s Award for his pioneering research on the coexistence of Jews and Arabs in Israel.
Prime Minister Netanyahu to his family [translated from Hebrew]:
“There is a very interesting phenomenon, as I always say, that the public has a very sophisticated sensibility. Just do it and you’ll absorb it right away. This is why all the people of Israel came here.
All the people of Israel are here. I want to tell you that this reflects something very deep that happened here. This brotherhood and this partnership, we know that we are fighting for everyone’s homes and that people have fallen. Ahmad fell in love with the homeland of all of us. This is what he said and expressed from the time he was alive.
I mourn this loss with you, his wife, little Mansoura, his grandfather, his family, and his brothers. I grieve with you, I know what it’s like to lose a brother. I also saw moments of sadness in my parents. But people here are very united and this is a turning point.
I think your suggestion is very interesting. I think it has to be progressive. Here’s an example, and I’m not just saying this – Ahmad was an example. I also see spirit and the light it gives, real light, good souls.
We visited the Desert Reconnaissance Battalion. One Bedouin officer told me: “On my way to the area adjacent to the Gaza Strip, I saw a woman with her head cut off.” This is what we are fighting against. ” That’s what he said. “This is what we are fighting against.” Against this we are fighting, we are fighting together.
This feeling of “being together” needs to be expressed even more strongly now. A hero like Ahmad has a huge contribution to make, a unity, because it affects the entire nation. Together, they will touch your heart.
The condition is diamond. It is a diamond that also exists in times of peace, but without the presence of monsters.
I would like to thank everyone. I would like to thank you and your mother. She is in deep sadness. ”
In the October 7 attack, dozens of Bedouin and Arabs were killed by Hamas, many of whom risked their lives to save Israeli Jews.
Opinion polls suggest that the October 7 attack united Israelis of all faiths and ethnicities against Hamas.
