Glenn Close believes Robin Williams would still ‘be alive’ if Christopher Reeve hadn’t died

Christopher Reeve and Robin Williams’ friendship may have been enough to save the comedian, according to a close Hollywood friend.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, features interviews with many who share the actor’s legacy and call him a friend 20 years after his death. did.

Actress Glenn Close said in the film, via the Guardian, “I always thought that if Chris had been there, Robin would still be alive.”

Reeve died of cardiac arrest in 2004 at the age of 52. Nine years before his death, his horse riding accident left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Before Williams and Reeve were both famous, they roomed together while attending the Juilliard School in New York.

After the “Superman” star’s spinal cord injury, Williams and Reeve became closer than ever. The “Mrs. Doubtfire” actor threw a party for Reeve every year on the anniversary of the accident.

Close has previously said that if Reeves hadn’t died, Williams would still be alive. Speaking at the 2017 “Magical Evening” gala, the “Fatal Attraction” star spoke about his friendship with Reeve, which he observed while filming “The World According to Garp” with Williams in 1982.

For several years before his death in 2014, Williams didn’t realize he had Lewy body dementia. Williams reportedly appeared tired on set and did not seem to be his usual self until his suicide on August 11, 2014.

The comedian was diagnosed with a neurological disorder following a post-mortem autopsy. Lewy body dementia is the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer’s disease. According to the Mayo Clinic, the disease affects areas of the brain involved in thinking, memory, and movement.
