“Real Time” host Bill Maher expressed caution ahead of former President Trump’s four criminal trials, saying he believes former President Trump is a “revolutionary leader” as the 2024 election campaign unfolds. I predicted that it would look like this.
In an interview published Monday by Reason Magazine, Maher expressed pessimism about the upcoming election, which looks increasingly like a rematch between President Trump and President Biden.
“I think a lot of people are in the same position. I wish Biden would step down,” Maher said. “First of all, I hope Trump doesn’t win, but he has a good chance of winning, and it’s becoming more likely. But a lot of things can change in a year. Yes. We never had his trial, but even if the January 6th committee and the media and everything else didn’t change people’s favor for him, these trials will I think it just makes you look like a revolutionary leader.”
He continued: “All you’re saying is, ‘The people who put me on trial were corrupt.'” And your dishonorable act becomes a badge of honor. Therefore, it is difficult to say whether this ordeal will help or hurt him. I think it’s going to be a draw, but then it’s going to be a referendum on which side is crazier.”

“And there are lawsuits on both sides, but I always stand on the side of, ‘Trump is really crazy, of course.’ He’s stupid. and crazy. They are completely different things, but he has both.I’m more curious about the crazy side, but crazy photograph, crazy photos, it’s convincing. And when he shows up, people will report on it and watch it. You’ll never get bored,” Maher said.
“And in this counter-factual society, I don’t think it matters that most people would actually vote anyway. They each have their own media sources and they say what they want to hear. “It doesn’t really matter what any of them say or do because their job is to give feedback to the audience,” he added.
Back in March, Maher warned that the first indictment brought by New York State Attorney Alvin Bragg would be “rocket fuel” for the Trump campaign in 2024.

“I want to put it on the record that if they were to bring charges like this, I think this is a big mistake. This is not it,” Maher said at the time. “I mean, yes, he’s done a lot of bad things, and I’m sure he did this – all the things they accused him of. [doing], he did it. But first of all, it doesn’t work. That will provide fuel for his 2024 campaign. And it will look at MAGA countries like, “Oh, you tried it with Mueller, you tried it with Ukraine, you tried it with January 6th. Are you going to go to porn stars next?” Really? Are you doing that much? ! ”
After the first indictment, President Trump’s Republican approval ratings soared and three more were filed, two by Special Counsel Jack Smith and one by Fani Willis, Georgia’s Fulton County District Attorney. Since then, a huge number of indictments have been filed, 91 in total, but the standard remains high.
Maher also said in the interview that he was reprimanded by a “pretty well-known” person for allowing a Republican to appear on his HBO show.
“I had [Ron] This year it’s DeSantis, Ted Cruz, and Bill Barr. Yes, to answer your question, I can think of two characters for her, but I won’t say who they are. One of them was pretty famous and was yelling at me about it via email,” Maher said. “My answer to that is F— off. You know? You live in an ivory tower. I If you talk to people in half the country, I think that’s pretty deplorable. Even though it is deplorable, they are not willing to voluntarily deport. And some of them are! And some people on the left are also deplorable and incredibly unpleasant. That’s the country! ”
He added, “When historians look back in 100 years, if we’re still here, I don’t think they’re going to divide this country into two camps like we did. would say: people, they were unpleasant. It happens differently on both sides. As a people, they did not believe in science. The right thinks global warming is a hoax, or whatever nonsense they believe about it. And the left thinks men can have children. That’s what you’ll be told. They will say, “As a people, they just lost what was good about them.” ”
