Popular podcaster and media personality Joe Rogan has signed a new distribution deal with audio provider Spotify for “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
The contract is estimated to be worth up to $250 million. according to The Wall Street Journal deal includes a guaranteed minimum upfront payment, in addition to a revenue-sharing agreement based on advertising sales. The magazine noted that in a departure from its original deal with Rogan, the new deal will see Spotify sell advertising for Rogan’s shows and distribute them in video format on YouTube.
Logan started his podcast in 2009 and it has grown in popularity in the years since. He signed his first contract with Spotify in 2020, reportedly worth $200 million, catapulting him to megastar status.
The former comedian and “Fear Factor” host has repeatedly caused controversy with his commentary on the coronavirus pandemic, politics and other current events. He faced particular backlash for spreading disinformation related to COVID-19 vaccines.
In 2022, a top Spotify executive called the backlash the company received over some of Rogan’s podcast content a “real learning experience” after the company removed dozens of episodes from its platform.
“I also learned a lot, not only from every episode itself, but also from every audiobook I’ve ever listened to, every article and book I’ve read, every documentary I’ve watched on or because of the show. ” said Logan. Said As part of a blog post announcing a new deal with Spotify. “In starting this podcast, I’m interested in talking to people, and I always feel like I stumbled upon this wonderful serendipity of education just by having the good fortune that people want to listen.”
