Four illegal immigrants who were arrested and charged with assaulting a New York City police officer and released without bail have reportedly fled to the sanctuary state of California.
It’s unclear whether the Golden State will work with New York to return the men charged with crimes, or whether the Department of Homeland Security will work toward deporting the men.
California law restricts state officials from assisting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in deporting immigrants. There are also many taxpayer-funded programs that undocumented immigrants can generally benefit from.
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced in January that California would begin offering health insurance to an additional 764,000 undocumented immigrants, in addition to the 1.1 million people enrolled in Medicaid, California’s version of Medicaid.

The expansion would also make undocumented immigrants eligible for tax-subsidized hormone and gender reassignment surgeries.

Nearly 700,000 illegal immigrants As of January 1, people between the ages of 26 and 49 are eligible for these federal health services, costing California taxpayers an estimated $3.1 billion. For people in this age group who are in California illegally, the health insurance subsidy, covered by the state’s general fund, is worth about $4,058 a year.

Undocumented immigrants also pay in-state tuition and are eligible for financial aid for state schools.

CalFresh, the state’s federally funded food assistance program, expanded eligibility for food benefits to undocumented immigrants 55 and older.

California also has a program called the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), which provides “monthly cash assistance to elderly, visually impaired, and disabled noncitizens who are not eligible for state Supplemental Security Income.” It is a 100% state-funded program designed to provide benefits like “Supplemental Payments on the Basis of Immigration Status Only (SSI/SSP).” ”

Four immigrants who were arrested and released on suspicion of attacking two New York City police officers near Times Square have reportedly fled to California.
The New York Post cited law enforcement officials as saying that authorities identified Darwin Andres Gomez Izquiel, 19, Kelvin Servita Arocha, 19, and Wilson Juarez, 21. He said he believes Yeoman Rebellon, 24, fled town after the incident.

According to the newspaper, police believe the foursome safely boarded a bus to California on Wednesday after giving false names to a church-related nonprofit that helps migrants flee the Big Apple.
A spokesperson for the New York Administrative Office of the Courts said in a statement to Fox News Digital that the agency does not know the whereabouts of Mr. Arrocha, Mr. Juarez, Mr. Rebellon, or Mr. Izquiel.
