An 11-year-old Las Vegas boy was riding an electric bike to school on the sidewalk when he was hit by a pickup truck and suffered life-threatening injuries, his mother said.
Rayan Kim was on her way to Gunderson Middle School around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday when she was struck by a 2012 Nissan Frontier at the intersection of Cactus Avenue and Cliff Lake Street.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Rayann was riding her bike on the sidewalk on Cactus Avenue when she was struck, causing her to fall off her bike and then being hit by a truck.
“I miss my son,” his mother told KLAS. “I’m afraid.”

Rayan suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident and was taken to University Medical Center. His injuries include a fractured jaw and facial bones, a broken left arm, a severe rash on his skin, hemorrhage on the brain, and half of his right ear.
“He lost his right ear, his skin and his face,” his mother said.
The boy’s mother told KSNV that the boy left home to go to school the morning of the incident and said, “Mom, I love you.”
“That’s the last time I heard his voice,” she said.
The boy is alive but will need more surgery, family friend Kristen Penny said in an update shared Friday on a GoFundMe page created to support Rayann’s surgery and recovery. said. She reveals that he is responsive and can hear. Penny called it a “miracle” that she’s alive.

The driver of the crash, 39-year-old Leo Gonzalez Cerron, was not injured. Police said the man remained at the scene after the collision and did not appear to be impaired at the time of the incident.
