Analysts and fans alike are calling San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy the “game manager” as they differentiate each team heading into Super Bowl V.
However, Hall of Famer and 49ers legend Joe Montana has a different perspective on this argument against Purdy.
“What I see is [with Purdy] “What offense is, that’s something I understood early on in my career,” Montana said on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show.” I’m a postman, so my goal was to get the ball to people who knew how to handle it. [the football] This isn’t mine, so I want to give it to someone who knows how to run and catch. ”

Montana went on to explain that Jerry Rice, Brent Jones, John Taylor and Roger Craig were all the players needed to get the ball delivered. It doesn’t matter if the ball is 2 yards away or 20 yards away. As long as the ball is in their hands, good things should happen.
It’s the same thing Purdy is currently doing with offensive talent like Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk.
“If you look at the weapons that Brock uses, you know he understands that offense,” Montana continued. “He understands what his position is. He doesn’t try to make big plays. He knows when that opportunity is going to come, when he needs to do it, but most of the time he punts. It’s okay to do that.’ Defense too.’ That’s what we had, and it was pretty much the same thing.

”[Purdy] I understand [his role]he is calm [the pocket]. He has a great presence, but he’s not trying to beat you with football. He gives us a great, easy-to-catch ball. ”
Needless to say, players are products of their environments in the NFL. It takes more than one player to succeed, and even Montana knows that, despite being a Hall of Famer.

And Montana believes that San Fran saw something in Purdy, even though he was Mr. Illerirevant.
“Obviously, the 49ers selected him for a reason.” [with the] last choice [2022 NFL Draft]what they saw on tape.
“I don’t think it matters who plays, right now. [Purdy’s] Luckily, he has some really good studs who can give him the ball and go long distances, so there’s nothing wrong with that. We’ve all had that experience at some point in our lives. So I don’t even think twice about it. That’s a plus for him.”
Game management doesn’t usually work well in the Super Bowl, especially against the Chiefs. Mahomes’ ability to improvise on the fly allows him to change the game on his own.
