A British mother explained that she left her daughter with her boyfriend in economy and sat in a business class seat, but wondered “would it be a terrible thing” to do such a thing?
The woman fled to business class on the 11-hour flight from Paris to Los Angeles, leaving her 11-month-old baby and boyfriend seated in the coach, according to her TikTok video documenting the flight.
“Am I terrible for leaving them both in economy?” their mother, Elise Cochlin, wrote. her video caption Describe your flight details.
“It was the only chance I could get my baby on a plane for free, so I took it. What would you do?” she asked her 22.5K followers.

“The idea of being able to board a plane without my baby was music to my ears,” she said in the video. “I love that girl dearly, but let me tell you, it’s not easy flying long distances alone with a baby.”

The video has so far been viewed more than 350,000 times and sparked debate about her decision.
“You’ve spent so much time processing your solo, I think you definitely earned this award!” TikTok creator aliceisgratified wrote in the video.
“It’s a little strange, but [to each their] It’s mine,” one user said.
“It’s a little weird, but what do you think?” Koechlin asked.
Another user replied: “You don’t want to sit with your family.”
“Please don’t feel guilty!!!!! We moms just want to breathe [sic] Sometimes alone,” one user posted supporting her decision.

Cocklin explained that she felt valued because it was the first time she wasn’t traveling alone with her daughter, Prim.
“I’ve never been on a plane with anyone else. I’ve been on a plane with just me and Prim,” she said. “So the idea that we could get help on this flight was amazing.”
Kochlin explained that it was the first time she didn’t travel alone with her daughter. (St. Petersburg)
“I think you both should do that. [sic] They were there for each other and shared responsibility,” one user commented in disagreement.
“I hope you enjoy every second of the number of flights you post yourself,” the user posted.

Kochlin is recorded her solo flight In a previous video with my daughter, I detailed the struggles of traveling alone with a baby. She also explained that even though her daughter could fly for free in economy, she thought the airline wanted to charge her thousands of dollars to give her daughter her own seat. Additionally, she justified her decision by stating that her boyfriend Rob had never been on a plane with her before and that she really wanted to be on a plane.
