Son of Democratic state senator arrested over hit-and-run that injured 14-year-old girl walking to church

Son of Pennsylvania State Senator arrested and prosecuted A hit-and-run incident in which a 14-year-old girl was injured on her way to church.

Although the Aug. 13 incident was captured on video, Sharif Street Jr. was indicted several months later, on Jan. 29.

Surveillance camera footage showed a white Nissan Altima hitting the girl around 8:40 a.m., stopping for nearly a minute before taking off from North Broad near Erie Street, according to court records.

The girl suffered a concussion and bruises, but survived.

Police said a bystander was able to capture the car’s license plate with a cellphone camera. After determining that the car belonged to Street Jr., they used cell phone data to show he was at the scene of the accident.

According to reports, the suspect told police he was visiting family in Atlantic City and lent his car to a man, but did not provide further details on who the man was.

Street Jr. was charged with numerous crimes, including aggravated assault with a vehicle and causing bodily injury resulting in bodily injury. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 8.

He also has other disorderly conduct arrests for a fight in September and another fight in February. He was sentenced to 30 days of probation and eight days in jail, according to court documents.

Street Jr. is also the grandson of former Philadelphia Mayor John Street.
