Trump lashes out at Mazi Pilip, calls for ‘real’ GOP candidate to face Tom Suozzi in November election

Former President Donald Trump has slammed fellow Republican Maj Pilip, claiming she lost Tuesday’s special election to replace the disgraced former congresswoman. George Santos because she did not support him as a presidential candidate.

President Trump criticized Mr. Pillip on “Truth Social” and said that he is the “true candidate” who will face Democrat Tom Suozzi, who defeated Mr. Pillip in the November general election and won the seat in New York’s 3rd Congressional District. I asked for a person.

With 93% of the votes counted Tuesday night, Nassau County Councilman Pilip, 47, received 46.1% of the vote, to Suozzi’s 53.8%.

Mr. Suozzi, 61, has represented much of Long Island and Queens for the past six years.

“Republicans learn nothing, but maybe she was still a Democrat?” Trump wrote on his social media platform. “I had almost a 99% approval rating in the primaries and very good numbers in the general election. But this very stupid woman, Maji Melesa Pilip, did not support me. “I just saw him run for office and try to ‘step over the fence’ when he could have easily won if he had any understanding of modern American politics.”

The former president claimed that his supporters in the district stayed home and did not vote because Pilip was not part of the MAGA camp and did not support or seek support for him in the 2024 presidential election.

“Please put a real candidate in this district in November,” Trump wrote in all caps. “Suozzi, I know him well and he will be easily defeated!”

Suozzi’s victory brings the Republican majority in the House to 219-213.

Democrats, who had sought to portray themselves as candidates who would build bridges between partisans, attacked President Trump in his victory speech Tuesday night.

“Let’s send a message to our friends who are running Congress these days: Stop running around for Trump and start running the country,” he said. “It’s time to find common ground and start serving the people of the United States.”
