Florida man writes apology letter to grandmother after carjacking her

A Florida man is accused of carjacking his 77-year-old grandmother and writing her a four-page letter apologizing for the incident.

Alan Aspinwall was arrested and charged with unarmed carjacking, domestic assault of a person 65 years of age or older, and theft from a person 65 years of age or older.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said authorities responded at 10:15 p.m. to a report of an assault and theft at a residence in Leesburg, Florida.

When they arrived, Aspinawall’s grandmother said her grandson asked to unlock the car so he could retrieve something from the trunk.

When she went outside to make sure her car was unlocked, Aspinwall allegedly snatched the keys from her hands and pushed her to the ground in the driveway.

After stealing the keys, the man got into his grandmother’s car and fled the scene, according to the affidavit.

Deputies said the 77-year-old woman suffered from the injuries she described, including a small cut on her finger, lacerations on the back of her hand and lacerations on her forearm.

Police detained Aspinwall later that day, but he denied any involvement in the theft. his grandmother’s carsaid the affidavit.

“The defendant stated multiple times that he regretted what happened, but did not provide any information about the incident itself. Although the defendant continued to deny any involvement, the defendant provided the victim with a four-page “I wrote a letter of apology,” he said. According to an affidavit obtained by a local broadcaster.

In a four-page letter, Aspina-Walls thanked her grandmother for “always forgiving.”

“Dear Grandma. First and foremost, you are the most loved person in the whole world that I and everyone else has given me. I want to apologize for not being the young man you raised.…You are It’s all about me…I’m so sorry.” My heart was at rock bottom because of all the negative things happening in my life. …Thank you for always forgiving me, even when I was wrong,” the letter reads in part.

Mr Aspinwall said he promised he would be a “great example of a loving father and a loving grandson” when he returns from prison.

“Please tell (my son) that his father was wrong. Tell him to always respect his grandmother,” Aspinwall wrote.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Aspinwall was already wanted on exposure charges. (St. Petersburg)

Mr Aspinwall also said he sent the car keys to his grandmother and asked her to make sure the car was locked.

The sheriff’s office said Aspinwall was already wanted on exposure charges. He now added charges of carjacking, theft and battery on a person over the age of 65.

His grandmother said she believes his addiction issues led to this situation.
