Daytona 500: What to know about this year’s ‘Great American Race’

The NASCAR season kicks off at full speed with Sunday’s Daytona 500.

Forty drivers will aim to make history at the famous Daytona International Speedway.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won this race last year from 31st place after finishing in the top 10 once before.

This was Stenhouse’s second win at the track, having won the 2017 Cork Zero 400, and was also Stenhouse’s third career victory. He also won the 2017 GEICO 500 at Talladega and has eight wins in the Xfinity Series.

Joey Logano, who took pole position this year, won the 2015 race after starting fifth. He finished second last year after starting third, marking his fourth top-five and seventh top-10.

Here’s what you need to know about the “Great American Race.”

When does the race start?

The 66th running of the Daytona 500 begins at 2:30 PM ET. You can watch the race on FOX. Saturday’s practice was canceled due to weather, but conditions are improving for Sunday.

Who has the fastest practice time?

Hamlin scored a 45.575 in the first practice, reaching a top speed of 197.477. Seven others, including Johnson and Wallace, were under 46 seconds. Logano’s score of 49.465 was his best in qualifying.

Who has the most Daytona 500 wins?

Richard Petty has the most wins at this track with seven. Denny Hamlin has three wins, the most of any active driver. Dale Jarrett was the last driver to win from pole position in 2000.
