A Florida man has been jailed for shooting and killing his grandfather, one month after he was filmed giving a passionate eulogy at his funeral.
Joshua Narrow, 23, paid tribute to his grandfather, James Cooley, then 71, in the mourners’ room on January 7th.
“Jim, I used to call him Grumpy. He was my grandfather in blood and my father in man. He raised me. He made me what I am today. On Feb. 15, Narow was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and sent to Charlotte County Jail without bail, the department wrote.
A probable cause statement obtained by Law & Crime indicates that forensic tests have linked Narrow’s rifle to evidence found at the scene of Cooley’s death.
“I’m happy to finally be able to update everyone on this horrific incident. As you can see, I haven’t been able to share much with you, but my detective and forensic team did a great job. “We began an investigation and ultimately captured the person responsible,” Sheriff Bill Plummell wrote.
“This will not make it any easier for the victim’s family, who will have to endure further grief, but we hope this will bring some peace of mind to the community again. Please pray for Corey’s family as they go through this situation.”This is an unthinkable situation,” Plummell continued.
After Cooley was shot and killed at about 5:15 a.m. on Dec. 28 and his wife called police in the South Gulf Cove community, officers said a rifle was used to kill him. I just couldn’t make an immediate decision. “There were no known witnesses or security cameras.”

The projectile was found in a pine tree south of Cooley’s home, in the direction of his grandson’s home. Analysis of the projectile determined it may have belonged to a “Savage” bolt-action rifle owned by Narrow.

Forensic testing of Narrow’s rifle on Feb. 14 determined it was the source of the projectile, giving detectives the evidence they needed to make an arrest, documents said.
According to Charlotte County records, Narrow was sentenced to several hours in jail on Jan. 11 for driving with a revoked license, but was released after paying a $150 fine.
Lawyers on Mr. Narow’s list could not be reached for comment. His next court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, according to online records.
