Texas officials said they are investigating how an elderly high school employee died from head injuries after an “interaction” with a student.
KSAT-TV first reported Alfredo Jimenez, 73, fell and hit his head at Louis D. Brandeis High School on the morning of February 7th.
“The injury occurred when the employee attempted to direct the student. During the course of the interaction with the student, the employee fell to the floor and sustained a head injury.” Said said Barry Perez, a district spokesperson.
The man was taken to the hospital by emergency services, where he was pronounced dead.
Jimenez worked as an instructional assistant for students with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities in an applied learning environment classroom, according to a letter sent to parents. He worked in the district for his 10 years.
“The entire Bronco family is saddened by his passing. His impact on campus was far-reaching and affected students and staff both inside and outside of the classroom.” read letter. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the Jimenez family during this difficult time. We remain dedicated to providing support to Mrs. Jimenez and her family.”
Officials said counselors will be available at the school for students and staff. Brandeis High School is located in San Antonio and serves approximately 2,700 students.
“Please keep those affected in your thoughts and prayers,” the letter concludes.
Jimenez was known to his students as “Mr. Fred.”
