UConn’s shocking loss to Creighton burns betting public

Ahead of Tuesday’s highly anticipated matchup with Creighton, the betting public was eyeing UConn as a small favorite, but the bookmakers dominated the day.

BetMGM reported that 66% of the money was on UConn against the spread as a 2.5-point favorite as the public flooded bets on the favorite Huskies.

Meanwhile, 80 percent of moneyline bets were also bets on Connecticut winning outright, the sportsbook reported just before game time.

DraftKings reported similar action in Connecticut, reporting that 77 percent of the Huskies’ funds were covered and 82 percent of their tickets were covered.

Tanner McGrath of Post Action Betting pointed out this wild trend during a preview of the game.

“A top 10 team that won its previous game by a margin of 15 points or more over another top 10 team, and then played a team of a different rank on the road, has a 4-7 straight up (SU) This means they have won four games, with an average margin of 3.8 points. ”

The sharp-shooting Blue Jays took shots early and often, allowing them to jump to 4-8. An overwhelming victory 85-66.

Dan Hurley’s group has dominated the college basketball season, riding a 14-game winning streak including a blowout win over No. 4 Marquette on Saturday.

But Tuesday’s loss ended the winning streak as both teams prepare for March Madness, which is about a month away.

But UW’s national title odds haven’t moved an inch, with the Huskies entering Tuesday at +500 odds, the second year in a row they’ve reduced the net, and that remains their odds.

Creighton made a big move thanks to a hot shooting night, traveling from Jan. 30 to Jan. 18, becoming the last team to cut the net in April.

The Creighton Blue Jays went deep unconscious against UW. AP

At one point, the Blue Jays were 11-of-19 from 3-point range, but they finally settled down in the second half, finishing with an astounding 14-of-28 3-point shooting.

The Huskies are scheduled to play the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday and will close out the regular season with games against Seton Hall, Marquette and Providence on March 9th.

From there, the Huskies will compete in the Big East Tournament from March 13-16 prior to Sunday’s selection.

If all goes well, the tournament’s favorite team will be the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, which begins March 19 with the first four games played.
