A Florida Uber driver is accused of trying to sell mushrooms and acid to a passenger, authorities say, who ended up turning into a town detective at the Florida Drug Enforcement Officers Association’s annual meeting. That’s what it means.

The months-long investigation began in August 2023, when the conference was being held on Miramar Beach.

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), a Citrus County Sheriff’s Office investigator ordered an Uber to take him to dinner.

The driver, John Alcott, 54, of Crestview, arrived to pick up the vehicle, and when investigators entered the vehicle, they smelled marijuana.

Alcott allegedly told passengers he was selling psilocybin mushrooms, then opened the glove box and revealed a “large bag” of mushrooms.

Detectives refused and later contacted WCSO investigators who were present at the meeting. The two agencies hatched a secret plan to buy drugs from Alcott the next day, and in carrying out the plan, the rideshare driver gave investigators 134 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 10 psilocybin mushroom capsules, and 12 doses of LSD for $1,000. It is said that he sold it.

Alcott also allegedly told new customers that he could also mail them psychedelic drugs.

Citrus County detectives continued to communicate with Olcott over the next several months, and an investigation revealed that he was traveling between Destin and Panama City Beach in Uber.

The undercover agents told Alcott they were planning a vacation to Miramar Beach in February and wanted to buy mushrooms and LSD while they were there.

Then, on February 21, WCSO agents and Citrus County undercover agents worked together to finalize a deal to purchase more than a quarter pound of mushrooms and 200 doses of LSD for $5,000.

Mushrooms and LSD

Investigators monitored the area around Alcott’s residence until he left to meet with undercover agents.

Police said WCSO deputies conducted a traffic stop along the way and arrested Alcott on a warrant related to a sting operation several months earlier.

A K-9 searched Alcott’s car and found mushrooms and LSD that were allegedly used in the transaction with the undercover agent.

“While these types of cases are not the primary focus of our VICE/narcotics investigations, these types of cases come to us,” said WCSO Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “He apparently has a habit of operating Uber while driving, which is quite alarming given the frequency of driving services in this area by teenagers and young adults.” Thing.”

Uber did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s inquiries regarding this matter.

Alcott is charged with selling hallucinogens, trafficking LSD, possession of hallucinogens with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of using a two-way communication device to commit a felony. He was released the next day after posting $15,000 bail.
