One of the alleged thieves, Rep. Lauren Boebert’s son Tyler, said the teen and his friends allegedly stole cash he had been saving for brain surgery, adding, “Literally nothing.” I don’t have it.”
The 33-year-old woman’s wallet, containing $75 in cash, two Venmo debit cards and her mother’s credit card, was stolen from her red 2015 Chevrolet Cruze the night of Feb. 21, an arrest affidavit states. It has been reported.
In a subsequent interview with police, the woman said, “I want you to find the people who did this to me because I literally have nothing left,” the documents state.
“[The woman] informed [police that] She has a brain tumor and currently does not have the money for surgery,” the affidavit states.
The woman’s driver’s license was also in the stolen wallet, but it was returned by mail several days after the alleged theft.
The ID was returned without sender information, along with a letter claiming it was “lost in the mail,” according to the affidavit.
The paper the letter was written on was from Aspen Real Estate Company.
The documents say the suspects who stole the victim’s wallet tried to use the victim’s Venmo card and her mother’s credit card at a nearby Kum N Go gas station, citing transaction records. .
Police were later able to identify Boebert, 18, and three minors in connection with four separate theft incidents.
Boebert was identified in part because he was wearing a sweatshirt from his mother’s now-closed bar, Shooters Grill, the affidavit said.
Boebert and three other suspects, whose names have been redacted from the documents, were caught on camera at the gas station at the same time the stolen card was used.
During the initial investigation into the theft, a minor also told police that Boebert had a sex tape of her with one of her accomplices.
The teenager, who became a father last year, is currently facing more than 20 charges, including five felonies, related to the incident.
He was arrested Tuesday and appeared in a brief virtual hearing before being released on $1,250 bail. Colorado Public Radio reported..
The boy is scheduled to return to court on April 11, according to online records.
Earlier this week, Boebert spoke out about her son’s legal predicament, saying, “It’s hard to see my child suffering in a situation like this, especially when he’s been given so many opportunities to get his life back on track. It breaks my heart to see it,” he said.
“I will never give up on him and will continue to be there for him. As an adult and a father, Tyler takes responsibility for his actions and accepts responsibility for his poor decisions just like any other citizen. should be held responsible.”
