A Royal Caribbean cruise ship employee installed hidden cameras in passenger bathrooms to film young girls naked and even hid under guests’ beds as they emerged from showers, according to an arrest affidavit. He reportedly took a photo of himself.
Irvin Joseph Mirasol, 34, a flight attendant on the Symphony of the Seas, was charged with voyeurism and child pornography Sunday after the girl discovered a camera “attached to the counter under the sink.” was arrested. Reported by WPLGcited an arrest affidavit from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The girl, whose name and age have not been released, shared a cabin with her mother and sister during the cruise, and the three used the restroom multiple times during the cruise, which began on February 24, and the recording showed officials said.
After reporting the discovery to security on February 26, Mirasol appeared in the cabin while he spoke with officers and was detained until the ship docked in Port Everglades, Florida.
Authorities seized his electronic devices and found videos of naked women, child pornography, and even videos of Mirasol setting up cameras himself. NBC Miami reported.
The report said he admitted to investigators that he had installed the cameras and that he had started working on the giant ship for the first time in December.
“I want to be in control, but I can’t,” Mirasol reportedly told investigators.
The pervert allegedly admitted to installing cameras on girls over the age of 16 if he liked whoever was staying in the cabin, NBC reported, citing an affidavit. .
Mirasol also said he would hide under the bed and record naked passengers, the report said.
The suspect appeared in federal court on Monday on charges of video voyeurism, production of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.
“We do not condone this unacceptable behavior,” a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said in a statement. “We immediately reported this matter to law enforcement and fired the crew member. We will continue to cooperate fully with authorities.”
Mirasol was being held without bail at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Jail.
