House Speaker Mike Johnson plans to attend President Biden’s State of the Union address Thursday to host the parents of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who has been unjustly imprisoned in Russia for nearly a year.
Johnson’s office confirmed in a statement to Fox News Digital that Ella Millman and Mikhail Gershkovych will be special guests of the speaker.
“I am honored to welcome Ella Milman and Mikhail Gershkovych to the State of the Union address,” Prime Minister Johnson said in a statement.
”“By inviting Evan’s parents, Congress will shine a spotlight on their son’s wrongful detention.”

The Republican House speaker said the Biden administration “must bring Evan home.”
“The United States must always defend press freedom around the world, especially in places like Russia, where it is under attack,” Johnson said. “The administration must send Evan home.”
