2 good Samaritans rescue woman from sexual assault at Florida beach, police say

Two men have been hailed as heroes after chasing away a man who was allegedly assaulted. sexual assault A woman was spotted on a beach in Florida, police said.

Chris Kersey and Paul Arterio were sleeping in a hotel on Gulfport Beach when one of their wives reported hearing screams coming from the beach around 3:25 a.m.

When she rushed outside, she found someone who appeared to be a man sexually assaulting a woman.

“Right away I heard screaming. We both took off and that’s when I saw the gentleman actually stand up, pull up his pants and start running,” Alterio said.

The two chased the man away, called the police, and then took care of the woman.

Kersey said he had a hard time making out the woman’s condition, but believed it was because the suspect had strangled her so hard that she nearly lost consciousness.

“I believe he restrained her too tightly and cut off her oxygen, which caused her to become delirious,” he said.

Sergeant Jesse Kellington with the Gulfport Police Department told WFLA-TV that police found the man several blocks away and arrested him within 10 minutes of receiving the call.

A 47 year old woman Said Police said she was relaxing in a gazebo on the beach while a friend was fishing nearby when she was accosted by a man. Her man allegedly spoke to her and grabbed her as she tried to leave. He told his girlfriend he was going to have sex with her and covered her mouth with his hand while pushing her to the ground near the tennis ball court at her Gulfport casino.

Police identified the man as 24-year-old Christopher Williams and charged him with attempted sexual assault. He was held on $500,000 bail.

The victim said she did not know the man prior to the assault.

Kellington praised the two men who jumped in to help the woman.

“The fact that they came upon the scene not knowing if the suspect was armed or if someone was in dire need of help and putting themselves in danger. Hats off to them,” he said. Ta.

They said they would be happy to help.

“I’m really proud that we were able to stop that situation,” Alterio said.

“I have two daughters, and if they were in that situation, I would want someone to do the same for them,” Kersey added.
