President Biden quoted his 2024 opponent, former President Donald Trump, multiple times during his State of the Union address.
Biden did not mention Trump by name, but referred to him as his “predecessor” several times during his speech.
First, Biden cited Trump in connection with the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“My predecessor, a former Republican president, told President Putin, ‘Do whatever you want,'” Biden said. “In fact, the former American president bowed to the Russian leader and said so.”
“My message to President Putin is simple,” Biden said, calling for increased U.S. funding for Ukraine. “We will not go away. We will not bow down. I will not bow down.”
Biden then cited Trump in relation to January 6, 2021.
“My predecessor and some of you here are trying to bury the truth of January 6th,” he said. “I won’t do that. It’s time to tell the truth and bury the lies.”

He added: “This is the simplest truth: You can’t love your country only when it wins.”
Biden went on to call on lawmakers and Americans to “stand together and protect our democracy.”
“Remember your oath of office to protect us from all threats, foreign and domestic,” he said.
Biden criticized Trump, adding: “We will respect free and fair elections, restore faith in our institutions, and make clear that there is no place for political violence in America.”
Biden then cited President Trump in connection with Roe v. Wade and women’s reproductive rights, claiming President Trump’s victory over the Supreme Court’s decision overturning landmark abortion laws. insisted.
“Many of you in this chamber and my predecessor have committed to passing a national reproductive freedom ban,” Biden said. “God, what freedom will you take away next?”
He also referred to his “predecessor” in the mental health field and claimed that Trump “failed to buy the American people.”
Biden then addressed the border bill, which Republicans have opposed in recent weeks, on immigration.
“I’ve heard that my predecessor called the Republicans in the Senate and asked them to block the bill because he felt it would be a political victory for me and a political loss for him,” Biden said. “There is,” he said. “It’s not about him or me. It’s going to be America’s winner!”
“If my predecessor was looking at this bill instead of trying to play politics and pressuring members of Congress to block this bill, then please come to Congress with me,” Biden said to Trump. Please appeal to pass the bill!”, he sent a direct message.
“We can work together,” Biden said, adding, “We won’t demonize immigrants and say they ‘taint the blood of our country.'”
“I will not separate families. I will not ban people from the United States because of their faith,” Biden said, clearly criticizing President Trump’s immigration policies.
“Unlike his predecessors, on his first day in office, Biden introduced a comprehensive plan to fix our immigration system, secure our borders, provide a path to citizenship for Dreamers, and more,” Biden said.
But President Trump and the Republican Party have touted the previous administration’s border security as the most secure in U.S. history.
