Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) on Friday praised President Biden’s State of the Union address and said she will not be meeting with lawmakers and guests at the Capitol on Thursday, as she is normally confined to a “bubble.” He said he spent a lot of time on it.
Biden lingered after his speech Thursday night, speaking well after the House began to empty.
“I thought he would do a great job. That audience is in his element,” she said on a CNN panel Friday. “And I wasn’t surprised how long he stayed, because he lives in a bubble and isn’t allowed to talk to people. And here he has no friends of his. Everyone is there.”
Biden, 81, faces growing doubts about his abilities ahead of this year’s election. He delivered a fiery State of the Union address Thursday night to a bitterly divided Congress.
Biden, who is set to face off against former President Trump in the November vote, spoke on a number of policy issues, but also spouted off sentences and occasionally deviated from the script.
In his speech, Dingell said he had done a “great job” reminding voters of “what we have accomplished” and offering a “vision for the future” during his time in office.
Biden made several attacks on Republicans during his speech. Without specifically naming Trump, he criticized his predecessor for overturning Roe v. Wade and forging a friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Michigan Democratic Party said it was “very clear” Republicans were displeased after several Republican senators heckled Biden last night and left the chamber shortly after his speech. insisted.
Dingell said it was a “very good speech” that showed a “clear contrast” between Biden and Trump.
