Dad fatally stabs wife, three kids and then himself in Hawaii’s second-deadliest mass killing

A Honolulu chiropractor doctor stabbed his wife and three children before taking his own life in Hawaii’s second-highest mass killing spree, according to reports and police.

Officers who responded to a 911 call about an altercation at a home in the city’s Manoa neighborhood left when no one initially answered the door, Homicide Squad Lt. Deena Tomes said at a news conference.

Officers returned about 30 minutes after receiving the second call, entered the area and found five bodies, including a 12-year-old boy and two girls, ages 10 and 17. According to Star-Advertiser

“Based on the evidence found at the scene and the investigation to date, it appears that an adult male killed the woman and boy with a knife recovered at the scene,” Tomes said.

Authorities have not identified those involved, but nearby residents say told KITV The killer’s father was Paris Oda (46), a chiropractor who lived in the apartment above him with Naoko Oda (48), a housewife, and was murdered along with his children.

One of the neighbors, Hiro Izumo, told the magazine that he did not notice anything unusual with the family.

“They seem like a typical, really festive family, and they dress up their house for the holidays, which is normal,” one neighbor, Hiro Izumo, told the magazine.

Another neighbor, Aime Wakai, said:

“The neighbors are a little scared,” said Mane Wakai, another local resident. “Normally there’s not a lot of crime around here, it’s really quiet, so everyone wants to stay safe and make sure everyone’s okay, and that doesn’t happen here.”

A homicide lieutenant said there was no history of domestic calls at the home and police did not know a motive for the killing, but witnesses told police there had been an altercation there early Sunday morning. .

Manoa Elementary School told parents in a letter that a crisis intervention team will be on campus to reassure students and staff.
