An elderly homeowner in New Mexico shot and killed a robbery suspect after a fight inside the homeowner’s residence over the weekend, Española police said. Said. Espanola is about 30 minutes north of Santa Fe.

Police said they received a report of a robbery in progress early Saturday morning in the 500 block of Middle San Pedro Road.
Arriving officers learned that an elderly homeowner confronted the robbery suspect inside the residence, a scuffle ensued, and the homeowner shot the suspect at least once, police said.
The robbery suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
“This is an ongoing active investigation and further details will be provided in the coming days,” police added.
