FBI Director Christopher Wray warned Monday of a “wide range” of dangerous threats coming from the U.S. border, including drug traffickers, gangs and smugglers with ties to ISIS.

During a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, Wray was asked by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) about threats at the border, including the Venezuelan gang Torren de Aragua. Ray said he can’t speak to specific gangs, but he said there are dangerous individuals coming in from the southern border.

“From an FBI perspective, we see a wide range of very dangerous threats emanating from our borders, including everything from drug trafficking. “We’ve seized enough fentanyl to kill a man. It’s really on the fentanyl side,” he said.

“Much of the violent crime in the United States is at the hands of gangs that are themselves involved in distributing fentanyl,” he said.

Authorities have warned of the presence of gangs, including Torren de Aragua. Last week, FOX News reported that an internal report from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) directed agents to be on the lookout for people crossing the border who may be showing signs of belonging to a bloodthirsty gang. Reported. Fox News reported Last week, it was revealed that the brother of the suspect in the murder of Georgia student Laken Riley has gang ties. Both the suspect and his brother are Venezuelans who entered the United States illegally.

Mr. Rubio asked Mr. Wray whether the smuggling networks that move people around the world may also have ties to ISIS and other terrorist organizations.

“So I want to be a little bit careful about how far we can go in a public session, but there are certain networks, some of the overseas intermediaries in smuggling networks, that have ties to ISIS, and we are very concerned about that. “We have put a lot of effort into investigating this in collaboration with our partners. What exactly that network is doing is still the subject of our current investigation,” he said. .

Rubio asked him to confirm that the network of intermediaries involved in ties to ISIS is “something we are concerned about.”

“That’s right,” Ray said.
