California public safety campaign warns criminals they will be prosecuted

A Southern California district attorney is warning would-be criminals in neighboring counties to think twice before committing crimes in their jurisdictions through a public safety campaign.

This advertising campaign by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office is in response to a spike in purse snatchings, home burglaries and other headline-grabbing crimes. The office, headed by District Attorney Todd Spitzer, noted that many of the crimes are committed by criminals living outside the county.

“The city of Sacramento may be rolling out the red carpet to thieves, but here in Orange County, we’re throwing the book at the criminals who come to steal,” Spitzer said in a statement, adding that lawmakers supported him. He mentioned crime mitigation policies that are believed to be in place. In the state capital. “If you steal, we will prosecute you. It’s that simple.”

“When the risks are far less than the rewards, it’s no surprise that criminals commit purse snatching and home burglaries, or walk out the front door of a store with stolen goods while you wait in line. Please pay for the goods,” he added.

The campaign is funded by federal civil asset forfeiture funds and is expected to reach more than 38 million people over four weeks.

The ad also includes a sign that reads, “Crime doesn’t pay in Orange County. If you steal, we will prosecute you. Orange County District Attorney’s Office.”

Many of the ads are placed along major highways that enter Orange County from nearby Los Angeles and Riverside counties.

Ads will also appear on buses in Los Angeles, Long Beach and other cities, as well as bumper stickers and text messages targeting cell phone users in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Imperial counties. Ru.

Mr. Spitzer has spoken out against crime reduction policies and elected officials in the past. In 2022, he compared his opponent to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon, who has been heavily criticized for his progressive criminal justice directives.
