WHITE SULFUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) told the Post on Wednesday that President Biden’s son and brother made “patently false statements” during testimony to lawmakers as part of the impeachment inquiry. He said he believed he made the statement. HQ Commander.
“What was missing from these interviews, in my view, was a lot more truth,” the House speaker said at the annual House Republican Policy Roundtable held this year at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. .
“I think they were pretty evasive,” Johnson said last month of Hunter and James’ testimony in the impeachment inquiry. “I believe clearly, based on bank records and some of the evidence, and the whistleblower’s testimony, that testimony was provided that was demonstrably false.”
But Johnson stopped short of accusing Hunter and James Biden of perjury.
“We’re going to let people draw their own conclusions,” he said.
“But I don’t think Hunter Biden shared the whole truth. That’s my personal opinion,” Johnson added.
Last November, Johnson said the impeachment inquiry into the president’s involvement in his family’s business dealings had reached an “inflection point” and that Congressional subpoenas for testimony from his eldest son and brother would move the impeachment inquiry fully forward. He claimed that he would produce the necessary evidence for this purpose. – A full-fledged impeachment trial.
On Wednesday, the House speaker said the evidence collected by the three House committees charged with investigating the Biden family’s alleged influence-spreading activities “doesn’t seem like something we all have suspected or intuitively knew.” It claimed that “a number of untoward and possibly illegal activities” had taken place during the planning process.
Despite this, there was no preparation to move forward with a vote on impeaching the president in the full House of Representatives.
“As I said, the jurisdictional committee is still conducting its investigation, which is what it is required to do under the law,” Johnson said. “This is a very serious, sober-minded, slow and methodical process. We are grateful that they have responded in the way they have.”
“So I think there’s some additional evidence that hasn’t been turned over yet.”
“We’re not there yet,” he said of voting on articles of impeachment.
On September 12, House Republicans launched an impeachment inquiry that included bank records showing Joe Biden was aware of his son’s shady business dealings with foreign entities, transcripts of interviews with Hunter’s former business associates, He began an impeachment inquiry, pointing to documents and testimony from an IRS whistleblower. and that his administration intervened during a five-year investigation into them.
There is evidence that the then-vice president met with associates of Hunter and his uncle, James Biden, from China, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Russia, which Biden said during his 2020 presidential campaign and while in office. This directly contradicts the statements made inside.
Republicans are also investigating Hunter, who earned more than $1 million working for a corrupt Romanian businessman because the vice president’s father campaigned against corruption in Romania.
There are no clear rules about how long an impeachment inquiry can or must continue.
The only real deadline is January 3, 2025, when the 118th Congress concludes its final session.
