Race-Baiting Reporter Tells Major Basketball Program’s Coach He’s Been “Put On The Hot Seat By The White Media”

A very unprofessional reporter told University of Michigan head basketball coach Juwan Howard that he was “getting attention by the white media” after the Wolverines’ season-ending loss to Penn State on Wednesday night. .

“There are three black coaches in this conference, and each has received attention from the white media throughout the season,” Minnesota spokesman Charles Hallman told Howard.

“I hope you get through this because we know that sometimes Black coaches don’t,” Holman added.

I fail to understand how horribly unprofessional and shockingly divisive this statement is, but most importantly, it is patently false. First of all, as a reporter, it’s not Holman’s job to give his opinion on why the people he’s covering are under criticism and make excuses to their faces. do not have. If you want to do that, start a podcast.

But more importantly, Holman’s racist comments completely ignore the reality of Howard’s situation. He was terrible at Michigan. Howard’s Wolverines have missed the NCAA Tournament in three of his five years as captain, including the past two consecutive seasons. This year, his team has been one of the worst teams in the league, with an abysmal record of 8 wins and 24 losses. But Holman blames the white media for his criticism…

If a black head coach performs poorly because he is black, should I, as a white person, ignore that? Isn’t that incredibly humiliating? Doesn’t that mean I should treat black coaches as inherently more fragile and less capable of handling criticism? I don’t know Juwan Howard personally, but I’m sure that’s not what he wants.
