Former President Donald Trump has told ABC News and George Stephanopoulos that his reputation was damaged by repeated statements on air that Trump was responsible for raping author E. Jean Carroll. and filed a lawsuit for defamation.
According to The Hill, President Trump on Monday criticized a virtual interview between Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) and Stephanopoulos on “This Week” on March 10th. A lawsuit was filed in federal court.
The lawsuit says Trump is “responsible for rape,” even though a jury in a Manhattan civil suit last year found Trump only liable for sexual abuse under New York state law. The focus is on Mr. Stephanopoulos’s interrogation of Mr.
“A judge and two juries found him guilty of rape and defamation of the rape victim. How do you reconcile your support for Donald Trump with the testimony you just saw? ” asked Stephanopoulos during the interview.
In a 20-page complaint, Trump’s lawyer Alejandro Brito accused Stephanopoulos of making the false statements with “actual malice or reckless disregard for the truth.”
“In fact, the jury explicitly found that the plaintiff did not commit rape, and as shown below, defendant George Stephanopoulos was aware of the jury’s finding in this regard and yet falsely claimed otherwise. “I made a statement,” Brito continued.
The former president sought unspecified damages in the lawsuit.
