On March 19, 2024, the City of Chicago filed a lawsuit against handgun manufacturer Glock, alleging that Glock is responsible for the easy use of the Glock Switch to convert semi-automatic pistols to fully automatic. I woke you up.
The city of Chicago is partnering with Mike Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety in this lawsuit.
Press release from the mayor’s press office shown The lawsuit alleges that “Chicago law enforcement officers are accused of murder, aggravated assault, shooting, kidnapping, robbery, burglary, carjacking, attempted robbery, and more.”
A press release states that the lawsuit “constitutes unfair business practices and negligence for selling a weapon that could easily be converted into an illegal machine gun and failing to take reasonable steps to prevent or mitigate the problem. and contributing to a public nuisance.”
Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) commented on the lawsuit:
The city of Chicago is experiencing a dangerous new frontier in gun violence plaguing communities with the rise of fully automatic Glocks on the streets. Selling firearms that can easily be converted into automatic weapons makes violent acts even more dangerous, and we will hold Glock accountable for putting profits before public safety, and we will continue to fight gun violence. We are doing everything we can to work with other organizations dedicated to eradication.
The lawsuit against Glock is the first brought under Illinois’ Firearms Industry Liability Act. Signed into law by Gov. JB Pritzker (D) in 2023.
Chicago and Everytown point to China as one of the sources of Auto Sears, a central component of the Glock switch, but it remains unclear how far China will go in disseminating such switches to the United States. He did not explain whether he was involved.

Blood Money: Why those in power turn a blind eye while China kills Americanshas revealed that a Chinese company, which is subject to strict regulations by the Chinese government, is supplying the United States with large quantities of auto sear switches, also known as Glock switches, small metal devices that can convert handguns into machine guns. They are illegal for most gun owners in the United States, but they are being shipped in boxes by the “thousands” from China.
