The latest Marist poll finds former President Donald Trump leading President Joe Biden in Georgia.
According to the survey, was taken From March 11 to 14, 2024, Mr. Trump led Mr. Biden among the 1,177 registered voters in the Peach State, with a majority of 51% of registered voters supporting Mr. Biden. Biden trailed by four points, gaining 47 percentage points.
With the addition of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Mr. Trump’s lead over Mr. Biden expands to 5 points. In this scenario, Trump would have an approval rating of 45%, followed by Biden at his 40% and Kennedy at his 14%.
Georgia famously turned blue in 2020 and again in 2022, but what will it look like in 2024?
The first poll of the season shows Mr. Trump gaining more support than Mr. Biden, especially among some key Democratic-leaning groups.

The poll also found that Trump is making significant gains among younger voters, those aged 18 to 29. Mr. Biden won this group by a double-digit margin in 2020, but now Mr. Trump leads Mr. Biden by 5 points, according to exit polls.
Meanwhile, independent voters remain effectively divided, with 49% supporting Biden and 48% supporting Trump. Mr. Biden has a large lead among black voters, but Mr. Trump currently supports Mr. Trump with nearly a quarter, or 24%, backing him, compared to 75% who support Mr. Biden. Notably, this already reflects a loss of support for the Democratic incumbent, as 77 percent of Black voters supported Biden in Georgia’s 2020 election.
The poll also found that Georgia voters view Trump as better able to handle economic and immigration issues than Biden, at 57% and 56%, respectively. However, 25% think “preserving democracy” is the most important issue, followed by immigration at 24% and inflation at 24%.
All of this coincides with the fact that a majority of Georgians (52%) disapprove of Biden’s performance, making for an uphill battle for the 81-year-old in the general election.
Notably, President Trump’s lead over Biden in this poll exceeds the poll’s ±3.7 percentage point margin of error. Georgia favored Biden in the 2020 election by a 4.4 percentage point margin, according to official results.
