The father of murdered Augusta University nursing student Laken Riley has called on the state Senate to pass an immigration bill.

Jason Riley spoke in the Georgia Senate on Wednesday after lawmakers passed a resolution in memory of Laken.
Laken was killed while jogging on the University of Georgia campus in February. Her skull was found in a “deformed” state, according to numerous court documents.
Her alleged killer, Jose Ibarra, is an illegal immigrant from Venezuela. Ybarra entered the United States illegally in 2022. Ybarra was taken into Border Patrol custody in September 2022, according to information released by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
He was “released while the incident was investigated.”
Laken’s father gave an emotional speech calling on Gov. Brian Kemp (R-Ga.) to declare an invasion of illegal immigrants.
“I’m standing before you, a heartbroken man,” Jason Riley said. “Part of my purpose has been taken away from me. God gave me a beautiful daughter to protect, feed, and raise her as a father. A man with an evil heart took her away. He took a life. He was in this country, this state illegally.”
“My vision for every senator in this chamber is to protect our people from this unlawful invasion,” he continued. “Recognize that there are more than 1 million illegal aliens in this state who are causing fear for their families.”
Ybarra faces multiple charges including felony murder, aggravated assault, assault and kidnapping for Laken’s murder.
