The Russian men’s national soccer team was scheduled to take part in an international friendly against Paraguay in Moscow early next week, but those plans have been cancelled.
The decision by the Russian Football Federation (RFU) to cancel the match came just one day after the shooting.
On Friday, Russia’s Federal Security Service announced that more than 60 people were killed and nearly 150 injured in the attack on the Crocus City Hall music venue. By Saturday morning, the death toll had jumped to at least 133, authorities confirmed.

Russia is currently restricted from participating in FIFA and UEFA tournaments due to the invasion of Ukraine. However, the country’s soccer team is allowed to participate in friendly matches.

The Russian soccer team defeated Serbia on Thursday in Moscow. The team was scheduled to play against Paraguay on March 25 at the VTB Arena in Moscow.
In announcing the match’s cancellation, the RFU cited the aftermath of the attack near Moscow.
“In connection with the terrorist attack that occurred in Krasnogorsk, the Russian Football Federation and the Paraguayan Football Association have decided to cancel the friendly match between the Russian national team and the Paraguayan national team,” the RFU said in a statement.

Russia’s football governing body, the RFU, added that all other matches in the weekend’s competition have been postponed. Russia’s Ministry of Culture also decided to cancel all domestic entertainment and large-scale events scheduled for Friday.
