President Joe Biden’s Justice Department announced a new organization to train state and local officials on procedures for applying red flag laws to confiscate firearms from gun owners who pose a threat to themselves or others. Conservatives accused the new center of trying to strengthen red flag laws that confiscate firearms from threatening gun owners.
The Department of Justice announced Saturday the creation of the National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center. The new organization is also called a “center.”
The National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center recommends that “law enforcement officers, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim and social service providers, community organizations, and We provide training and technical assistance to behavioral health professionals to keep them out of the hands of those who pose a threat to themselves or others. ”
The Ministry of Justice stated: statement“ERPO laws, modeled after domestic violence protection orders, allow law enforcement, family members (in most states), medical professionals and other parties (in some states) to temporarily prohibit someone from committing violent acts. “Creates a civil process that allows individuals to apply to court to determine whether they are at risk of harm to themselves or others by purchasing or possessing a firearm during the period of the order.”

ERPO laws, often referred to as red flag laws, allow the government to confiscate firearms from legal gun owners without due process.
The ERPO law allows law enforcement to search and seize firearms from “dangerous persons.” Red flag laws also allow courts to issue temporary orders prohibiting “dangerous” individuals from possessing or obtaining firearms.
According to a press release from the Department of Justice, 21 states and the District of Columbia have enacted ERPO laws.

Conservatives denounced the center as another version of government overreach that violates Second Amendment rights and seeks to confiscate guns without due process.
