Comedian Jon Stewart has warned against AI, saying its rapid adoption will lead to massive job losses.Jon Stewart devoted most of Monday’s episode of Comedy Central to daily show To explore the impact of artificial intelligence technology.
“We have experienced technological advances over the years, all of which have promised us a utopian life without the monotony,” Stewart said. “And the reality is, they’re coming for our jobs.”
Stewart then played a video of AI company executives assuring that technology will not replace humans, followed by other executives calling AI a “labor-saving tool” and saying that AI will “do more work.” He played a video talking about getting rid of people’s taxes.
“AI is replacing our workforce now, not in the future,” Stewart said, later adding, “What’s happening here is terrible.”

Stewart continued the segment with increasing existential dread.
“But that’s the game. The way of life you’re used to, whether it’s globalization, industrialization, or now artificial intelligence, is no match for the promise of more profits and new markets.” he said. But “at least other disruptions have occurred over the course of a century or decades. By Thursday he will be ready for AI to take over.”
“And once that happens, what on earth is the rest of us supposed to do?”
Jon Stewart is the latest Hollywood figure to sound the alarm on AI.
Prime Minister James Cameron has warned that AI will take control of the methods of war through uncontrollable algorithms, causing a Judgment Day-like catastrophe.
blade runner Director Ridley Scott compared AI to a “technological hydrogen bomb” and said it was evil for humanity.
Christopher Nolan said AI is soon reaching an “Oppenheimer moment,” or point of no return, and people need to “take responsibility” for its development.
