An undocumented immigrant who only illegally crossed the border into the United States about two weeks ago is accused of brutally stabbing his wife to death and nearly decapitating her in front of their two children.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. on April 1, 2024, Baltazar Perez-Estrada entered the Carol Stream, Illinois Police Department and reported to authorities that he had stabbed his wife, 26-year-old Maricela Simon Franco.
Officers said they took Perez-Estrada into custody and immediately began an investigation. During the investigation, authorities discovered that Perez-Estrada entered the country illegally from Mexico.He was charged with alien trespassing, given a future trial date, and allowed to continue entering the United States.
Prosecutors allege that Perez Estrada and his wife got into an argument at their apartment around 10 p.m.
