The Catholic Church on Monday strongly condemned gender theory and sex reassignment surgery.
For years, critics of Pope Francis have argued that the pontiff has embraced liberal and progressive ideology, or at least appeases liberal Christians by demonstrating a willingness to embrace progressive ideas.
There is no doubt that Francis has given ammunition to his critics.
For example, last November, the Vatican said In some circumstances, a priest may baptize someone who identifies as transgender, and such a person may serve as a godparent. A month later, the Vatican said Same-sex couples and couples in “irregular circumstances” can receive a priest’s blessing. Those directives were issued several months after Francis What I said to someone who identifies as transgender “God loves us just the way we are.”
But on Monday, the Diplomatic Office of the Faith and Doctrine issued the document — dignitas infinitaIt means “infinite dignity” in Latin and describes the Catholic Church’s high view of human dignity.
This document outlines the theological, philosophical, historical, and biblical foundations of its views, and includes It lists “serious infringements.” Euthanasia, the “alienation” of people with disabilities, and surrogacy.
Two further “serious violations” are gender theory and gender reassignment, according to the document.
gender theory
After establishing that all human life is a “gift from God,” the document first states that accepting gender theory is akin to “making oneself a god.”
“Aside from the basic truth that human life is a gift, as gender theory dictates, the desire for individual self-determination is a concession to the age-old temptation to make oneself a god, and a revelation. “It is tantamount to entering into a competition with the God of true love that we have in the Gospel,” the document declares.
Second, the document criticizes gender theories that seek to eliminate biological differences between men and women.
“This fundamental difference is not only the greatest possible difference, but also the most beautiful and most powerful. In couples of men and women, this difference achieves the most amazing reciprocity. Thus, It will be a never-ending source of miracles ‘to amaze us: the arrival of a new humanity into the world,’ the document explains.
Gender theory must be rejected because it “envisions a society without gender differences,” the document says.
In fact, it says, the only way people can “fully discover themselves, their dignity, and their identity” is by accepting their sexual differences.
Still, the Vatican stressed that all people, regardless of ideology or identity, must be respected and not discriminated against.
sex change surgery
In addressing gender reassignment procedures, the Vatican’s guidance focuses on the core Christian idea that humans are created “in the image of God.”
Because of this reality, the document describes gender reassignment surgeries, many of which are irreversible, as a threat to human dignity.
“Gender reassignment interventions, in principle, risk threatening the unique dignity that a person has enjoyed from the moment of conception,” the document explains.
“This excludes the possibility that people with genital abnormalities that are already evident at birth, or develop later in life, may choose to seek the assistance of a medical professional to resolve these abnormalities. Not,” he added. “However, in this case, such medical procedures would not constitute sex reassignment in the sense intended here.”
The importance of this document cannot be underestimated.
While many progressive Christian denominations have followed the path of popular culture and embraced far-left gender ideologies, the Catholic Church has drawn the line and stands firmly in traditional and historic Christian teachings. Masu.
