BBC host shame Guyana president climate change STEAMROLLED

Guyana’s President Mohamed Irfaan Ali did not hesitate to shut down BBC journalist Stephen Thacker when he tried to coax the head of state into a climate change apology.

“Over the next 10 to 20 years, $150 billion worth of oil and gas is expected to be extracted off our coasts,” Thacker began. “That means, according to many experts, more than 2 billion tons of carbon emissions will be emitted from these reserves from the ocean floor and into the atmosphere. If you, as head of state, go to… I don’t know if it was.”

But Ali interjected before he could finish speaking.

“Let me stop you there,” he retorted. “In Guyana [had] An eternal forest the size of England and Scotland combined, a forest that stores 19.5 gigatonnes of carbon, a forest that we have kept alive?”

“Does that give you the right to release all this carbon?” Sukkur asked.

“Does that give you the right to lecture us on climate change?” Ali said, pointing his finger directly at the interviewer. “I’ll give you a lecture. you Because we are keeping alive this forest that you enjoy, that the world enjoys, that stores 19.5 gigatonnes of carbon that we don’t pay for or value. ”

“Imagine: Our country has the lowest deforestation rate in the world. And guess what, even if we explored the maximum amount of oil and gas resources we currently have, we would still reach net zero.” “I guess,” he continued.

“This is the hypocrisy that exists in the world. In the last 50 years, the world has lost 65% of all biodiversity. We have maintained biodiversity. Do we value it? Prepare to pay up. Is it ready? When will developed countries pay for it? …Or are you in the pockets of those who destroyed the environment…through the industrial revolution and are now lecturing us? Are you in the pockets of people who do?”

Pat Gray enjoys Ali’s rants.

“He just beat the shit out of it.” [Sackur]” he says. “What do you suggest we do for energy in Guyana? Are we going to switch our economy to solar and wind power here in the developing world? Mr. BBC Broadcaster, that’s you. What do you want? Do you want to starve our people? … What do you want here from the Third World?”

“That guy was amazing. He was on fire,” Keith Marinak added.
